The main task that an interworking specification has to achieve is the mapping of the different object models. The specification contains the necessary details to enable C O M and O LE objects to be clients of C O RBA server objects and vice versa. While doing so, the specification instantiates the abstract interworking architecture in four ways (see Figure 5.10). The differences between the O LE Automation and C O RBA object models are even more pronounced. Interworking specifications are in general more complicated than interoperability specifications because they have to define how the different middleware object models map onto each other. CHARLES (CHUCK) THACKER Another brilliant scientist recruited by Robert Taylor was Chuck Thacker, who, like Lampson, was just turning 27 when he joined PARC.
