The other server types are oidrepld, the replication server that manages replication between different Oracle Internet Directories; and odisrv, the Oracle directory integration server that can propagate data to non-Oracle LDAP directories. It is possible to start multiple oidldapd listener processes, provided they are running on different network addresses or on different ports on the same address. Each listener must have a unique instance number. In this case, it is instance number 1. This number will be used with subsequent stop commands to identify which listener to stop. The host argument nominates the network address on which the LDAP listener should run; if it is omitted, this defaults to the local host. The configset is a pointer to an entry in the Oracle Internet Directory that controls the configuration of the directory; the Oracle Internet Directory is in effect controlled by the Oracle Internet Directory (isn t recursion a wonderful thing ). In Oracle 10.1 and above, a RAC database instance can be accessed through a virtual IP address (VIP) address, which is an alternate public address that client connections use instead of the standard public IP address. The VIP address is a spare IP address for each node that belongs to the same subnet as the public network. Clients should always specify the VIP address, as opposed to the real IP address, when attempting to connect to an instance. If a node fails, then the node's VIP address fails over to another node. Clients attempting to connect to the VIP will be redirected to another node. This eliminates some of the issues with TCP timeouts, which were prevalent in Oracle 9/ RAC and caused long delays when clients attempted to connect to failed nodes. VIP runs as a node application that is configured in the OCR and can be started and stopped with the other node applications using SRVCTL. VIP can be configured using the Virtual IP Configuration Assistant (VIPCA) utility.

Global Services Daemon (GSD)

In Oracle 9/ each node runs a Global Services Daemon (GSD). The G D allows clients including the S S V T utility, the EM, and the D C to execute administrative commands such as instance start-up R CL BA and shutdown. In Oracle 9i, the G D is implemented as a Java program. It is not an Oracle instance background S process. It is managed independently using the Global Services Daemon Control utility (GSDCTL). In Oracle 10.1 and above the G D is implemented as a node application and can only be managed S using Oracle Clusterware or the S V T utility. R CL
