You can identify objects related to a deployment by running ad hoc queries or scripts against database tables that contain identifier or relational columns. However, if the database is large or if the list of objects changes frequently, you can use stored procedures to save time and effort. SQL Server 2005 stored procedures, which you run by executing the Transact-SQL EXECUTE statement, accept input parameters and return multiple values in the form of output parameters to the calling procedure or batch. They contain programming statements that perform operations in the database, including calling other procedures, and they return a status value to a calling procedure or batch to indicate success or failure (and the reason for failure). Unlike functions, stored procedures do not return values in place of their names and they cannot be used directly in an expression.

Use server publishing You can publish the Configuration Storage server in the main office to the Internet, and then access the Configuration Storage server from the branch office through the Internet. If you choose this option, create a computer object for the remote-office computer and enable access to the server publishing rule only to that IP address. The server publishing rule needs to enable access for the MS Firewall Storage Server protocol. After installing the branchoffice ISA Server computers, disable the server publishing rule. Use a temporary enterprise You can also create a combined ISA Server installation in a separate enterprise in the branch office and use it to establish a VPN connection to the main office. After you ve created the VPN connection, install a replicate Configuration Storage server that uses the main Configuration Storage server, then use that server as the Configuration Storage server for the branch array. Finally, you can remove the combined server. Use an ISA Server backup file To deploy this option, use Windows Backup on the Configuration Storage server in the main office to create a backup file (.bkf). When you run Backup, choose to back up only the ADAMData folder located in the Microsoft ISA Server folder. Then, when you install the Configuration Storage server on the computer in the branch office you can choose to use the backup file as the replication source, as shown in Figure 12-4. This option is recommended in an environment where you have many ISA Server computers and the network connection between the branch office and main office is slow because, after you restore the data, only the changes to the enterprise since the backup need to be replicated, rather than the entire configuration.
