Your company safeguards a great deal of personal financial information for your clients. Specifically, the new members of the QA team are dedicated to finding vulnerabilities and ensuring they are remedied before allowing the application to be released. They re very good at their jobs, and they have discovered quite a few potential vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, their thoroughness has a downside. Each time they find a vulnerability, they reject your team s code. Your team then has to fix the vulnerability and resubmit the code to the QA team for additional testing. Because of scheduling difficulties, this cycle takes at least a week each time. Sometimes, this cycle happens several times for a given release, because fixing one problem introduces a new vulnerability. This delay has kept your team from releasing any new updates, and the low productivity has reflected poorly on you. Your manager is looking for ways to streamline the process. You talk to your manager and a few other key people so that you can formulate the best responses to your boss inevitable questions.

The .NET Framework provides a category of counters specifically designed to track the performance of .NET remoting operations. As with all other counters, the .NET remoting counters can be added to the Performance Monitor and tracked manually or programmatically. To manually add counters to track, in the Performance Monitor, click the Add button in the toolbar. In the Add Counters dialog box, select the cate gory of counters to track from the Performance Object drop-down list box, select the counter type from the list box on the left, select the counter instance from the list box on the right, and click Add. Dial tone recovery is a procedure in which you delete an existing database or storage group and then restore it from backup. It is described later in this lesson. An RSG differs from a normal storage group in some significant respects. Some storage group functions are disabled for RSGs. For example, all protocols except the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) are disabled. Therefore, mail cannot be sent to or from any mailboxes in a database in an RSG. Although an RSG supports MAPI, mailboxes in a database that has been mounted in an RSG cannot be accessed via Microsoft Outlook or OWA. Nor can such mailboxes be connected to Active Directory directory service accounts. These mailboxes need to be merged into existing mailboxes or copied to a folder in an existing mailbox. System and mailbox management policies are not applied to RSGs. This prevents the system deleting items in an RSG while you are trying to salvage them. In addition, online maintenance does not run against databases in an RSG. You cannot configure databases in an RSG to mount automatically when the Exchange Information Store service is started. RSG databases mounted at the time of a cluster failover do not mount automatically after failover is completed.

You have binary and hexadecimal notations under your belt, and now you need bit masks. In the registry, Windows XP sometimes groups settings together in one number. Each bit within that number is a different setting. Thus, you can store eight settings in a byte, 16 settings in a word, and so on.
