The only difference in using the refactoring in this manner is that an additional option appears in the Move Class dialog box: Move Without Refactoring. If this option is checked, NetBeans moves the class without scanning additional classes to correct references to the moved class. The database mapper (a.k.a. ORM) pattern is the heart of everything discussed in this text, regardless of the tool that you choose to use. The essence of the database mapper, or DB mapper, is to map objects to a relational database. This is accomplished by using metadata to describe the attributes and relationships that exist between the object model and the data model. This metadata can come in many forms, but for the most part Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a consistent option for the metadata mappings that the ORM uses. Along with the metadata, a mapping engine of some sort is needed to translate the metadata into something useable, handle transactions and caching, and control the underlying access to the data source. EF and LINQ to SQL are both examples of DB mappers. In general, a DB mapper is a complicated piece of logic, and most people look to third parties (for example, Microsoft) to develop one. As you can imagine, writing a flexible mapping program is a tedious endeavor. That is not to say that hard-coding the mapping between object and data model is not a valid form of this pattern, because it is, but it is not the recommended
